Oedipus meets Equus with a dash of Macbeth with in Nicky Silver's darkly comical and deeply moving, FAT MEN IN SKIRTS.
After their plane crashes, Phyllis, and her son, Bishop, are stranded on a desert island for five years. During their stay, Bishop is transformed from a stuttering, Katherine Hepburn-obsessed littleboy, in to a feral savage and, left to fend for themselves, they dine on the bodies of those less fortunate.
Performing 30 September and 1, 6, 7, 8 October at 8pm with an added matinee at 2pm on 8 October at The North Wagga Hall
Tickets available from The Wagga Civic Theatre Booking Office on 69269688 or at www.civictheatre.com.au
At home, we see Howard, Phyllis' husband and famous movie director, continuing life with his somewhat loopy, ex-porn-star mistress, Pam. Pam moves in with Howard and becomes pregnant.
When Bishop and Phyllis return to civilization, their savage lifestyle is not easily shed. All four characters live together, walking on eggshells around Bishop, Pam is reduced to pretending she is the domestic help and is rapidly growing tired of it and Howard is too burdened with guilt to act on anyone's behalf.
"If FAT MEN IN SKIRTS weren't so funny, it could never reduce you to tears." —National Public Radio.
Featuring a talented local cast, consisting of Jamie Lynch, Monique Phillips, Jesse Dugan and Fury Glanville, Gearstick is thrilled to present a play that is both terrifying and hilarious.
