See You At The Pub!bite-sized-1

What could be better than a night at the pub with your mates? How about a night at the pub with your mates whilst you sink your teeth in to some ripping yarns? That's right; Gearstick returns to the Ambassador Room of Romano's Hotel to bring you a series of bite sized performances from some of the world's greatest writers. Throughout April you will have the opportunity to indulge in your beverage of choice whilst contemplating if there is a dead guy in the back of the cab. Or perhaps, why a butler knows how to disarm bombs, or maybe why Shakespeare never got it on with Queen Elizabeth.
Sound intriguing? Why not grab a drink and head upstairs to catch Bite Sized, a month of short pieces brought to you by the people that gave you The Reindeer Monologues. Thanks to an Arts and Cultural Grant from the Wagga Wagga City Council, each week of April will see the Gearstick Team take on a different script from a famous author, madly rehearse it and present it for your viewing pleasure over the weekend. First up there will be The Dark Lady of the Sonnets by George Bernard Shaw - a crazy story of how Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth meet. Then it's Victoria Station by Harold Pinter where we share the frustrations of a small business operator as he tries to direct a clapped out, old hippy taxi driver to a fare. Then we splash in to the Twilight Zone of Magnetic North by Michael Gurr. The absurd tale of a man in his bath! Finally it's LA Sketches by David Mamet. A Collection of five sketches that poke fun at those who think they know what they are talking about.
So gather your friends for a meal at Romano's, grab a beer and head upstairs for Bite Sized - you'll be out in time for dessert.

The Dark Lady of the Sonnets is George Bernard Shaw’s wacky tale of how Queen Elizabeth and Shakespeare really met and how some of the greatest plays in history were written.  Throw in a Beefeater, who doesn’t just eat beef, and the abovementioned Dark Lady and you end up with a romantic comedy to rival Shakespeare in Love.

Shakespeare:  Cameron Croker
Queen Elizabeth:  Monique Phillips
The Dark Lady:  Ashleigh Haynes-Holyoake

Crew:

Design/Op:  Liz Jenkinson

Magnetic North by Michael Gurr

Directed by Kevin Poynter

Picture this: you are relaxing in your tub when in strolls a convicted murderer intent on taking a whiz.  Not to be outdone you’re then greeted by a butler with an uncanny knowledge of bomb disposal.  None of whom live with you.  That’s the tale behind Gurr’s surrealist journey in to the sanitary habits of a slaughterman named Arthur.

Cast:

Scott:  Cameron Croker
Louis:  Peter Muir
