Ruby Moonruby-poster-draft

by Matt Cameron
Original Music Composed by Andrew McNaughton

Everything is perfectly normal in Flaming Tree Grove, Every day Ray Moon goes off to work and every day Sylvie Moon stays home and tends to the household chores. But nothing is what it seems. Young Ruby Moon has gone missing on a trip to visit her Grandma, and when mysterious parcels containing doll parts start arriving Ray and Sylvie head out to interrogate their neighbours to discover just what has happened to Ruby Moon.

Author Matt Cameron has created an amazing world of theatrical magic, populated by a host of quirky characters, all some how implicated in the mystery. Ruby Moon is a surreal journey into loss, mystery and obsession; unfolding like a fractured fairytale.

What are the residents of Flaming Tree Grove hiding, and what really happened to Ruby Moon on that fateful night?

The University Theatre Ensemble blasts in to 2009 with a bold and provocative production of Martin Crimp’s Attempts on Her Life; Opening at the Playhouse next week.  Join us on a rollercoaster ride through the major obsessions of the late twentieth century – terrorism, celebrity, pornography, ethnic violence, sex and ... new cars?  In seventeen episodes the ensemble interrogates Crimp’s script through all it’s dark humour, irony, cynicisim, beauty and cruelty.

Who is Anne?  A terrorist, a victim, a femme fatale, an artist?  Is she dead or is she alive?  And who is Annie and who is Anya?

Attempts On Her Life will turn your expectations of what a play can be on its head.  Don’t miss this exciting new production featuring the entire final year of students in the BA(Acting for Screen and Stage) and BA(Design for Theatre and Television) at Charles Sturt University.  The ensemble has worked in collaboration with the artistic team from Gearstick Theatre, Ashleigh Haynes Holyoake, Craig Higgs and Kevin Poynter to bring to the stage one of the boldest scripts of the last twenty five years.

attemptsGearstick Theatre and the University Theatre Ensemble are excited to announce that they are joining forces to stage UTE’s first production for 2009 a play that will showcase an ensemble of 3rd year performers and designers.   Attempts on Her Life by Martin Crimp is a timely, moving, funny and deeply sexy piece of theatre that will be a must see in Wagga's theatre calendar.

Gearstick Theatre is providing a directorial team made up of Ashleigh Haynes Holyoake, Craig Higgs and Kevin Poynter and together they will guide the 3rd year students through, what Stephanie Johnson of Australian Stage describes as "a post-modernist piece ... in which the central character remains elusive. Anne, Annie, Anya is the mystery woman ... Attempts On Her Life are attempts to resolve the ambiguity of her life and death - her feelings, thoughts, actions, reasons for actions and motivations. In a series of 17 playlets within the play 'her' life reveals much that is shadowy and unanswered.”

It is a play that has moments of drama, humour and unpleasantness but is on the whole a challenging work that will defy your expectations of theatre and give you something to really think about rather than just passively enjoy.
